San Onofre Elementary School
Client: Fallbrook Union Elementary School District
17.08 AC; 88,410 SF facility
Originally built in 1974 with a second phase in 1977 to house 449 students, this school is located on Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base. The campus has 820 students enrolled and was named one of the most-overcrowded base schools in the nation. Many classes were being held in portable buildings rather than original school buildings. This campus was demolished and new buildings and facilities were rebuilt in its place. RNT designed the new school to include new classrooms, upgraded educational technology, additional space for art, music, and band classes, and enhanced student and bus drop-off areas. As a military base school, the campus will be designed to abide by DOD anti-terrorism standards.
