This new 86,400 SF five-story building consists of mathematics, social sciences, behavioral sciences classrooms, science laboratories, student convenience store and satellite bookstore, computer classrooms, faculty offices, faculty/student collaborative workrooms on all floors, an education center, Dean Suite, 120 seat auditorium Corporate Education Center and a seven-story Parking Garage. The project site was challenged with cross-site topography, vehicle and pedestrian circulation constraints on a small urban site. The courtyard design optimized site conditions and provided views and daylighting for all classrooms, laboratories and faculty offices. Additionally the new building provides indoor and outdoor gathering spaces for students to socialize and collaborate. The design phase involved many user workshop meetings to reach design consensus. This LEED Silver Certified project incorporates many energy saving principles, including solar shading, extensive daylight harvesting, energy efficient and durable building envelope, and future PV power production.
